LOVE WHERE YOU LIVE
The most calming moments are those in which your head is pointed toward the heavens. Just a few deep breaths with eyes fixed on the infinite wonder above can relax any mind, stir any soul. It doesn't matter who you are, where you came from, where you're going, or what you'll do tomorrow... in those few breaths you can truly live in THAT moment of space and time.
I remember a sign posted in the common area of the first apartment I rented after college. It simply said, "Love Where You Live." Sure, it may have been one of those purchases from a rinky-dink home goods retail store but for some reason that sign always stuck with me. It followed, cursed, and inspired me. Looking at that sign, I thought back to the feeling of stepping into the shadow of a moonless, star-lit Vermont night after a long drive from chaotic city life. I just stood there, looking up in amazement and easily became transfixed on the galaxy above; such that I couldn't even register the yelling of my name. It didn't matter. I knew that one day I wanted to live somewhere with a 'view' of the night sky that instilled that same sense of awe. I no longer desired a killer condo with a skyline view or some suburban mansion, just somewhere I could feel connected to that same sense of oneness with the universe.
I believe it's important to have proper indoor lighting and the perfect twilight photo for someone looking to buy a house, condo, etc. to showcase it's everyday features. However, I also believe nothing can compete with the darkest of night and the light of thousands of stars to connect someone's future home with the bigger picture. Sometimes we need to be reminded that we are a part of something infinite and absolutely amazing. In that moment you will breathe easy and know for a fact that you "Love Where You Live." This is why I'm pushing the envelope to introduce Astrophotography as a part of my real estate photo shoots.
Why?
Because there's no space like endless space.
REAL ESTATE PHOTOGRAPHY & WHY IT MATTERS
It's hard to believe these are photos of the same house. The photo on the left is what I found on the internet after researching the property that I was going to be shooting. The photo on the right is what I shot for OMNI Real Estate. It is a stacked image of 3 varied exposure lengths and slight HDR toning. It's not the mansion of every man's dream, but it did have many unique qualities and characteristics that needed to be displayed. For instance, you may not know it's a stones throw away from the nicest park in Summit County or that the owner took meticulous care of the home for nearly 20 years. You may not know it has one of the nicest stoves you've ever seen or the fact that you could pay your entire mortgage with the rent you could make off of the downstairs unit. Yes, it has a separate entrance and an entire downstairs unit with the same amount of square footage as the top floor. You see, this is why I have a real passion for real estate photography. So many times we overlook the love and care of a home that someone puts in over the course of their life just because it isn't brand new or doesn't have the shine like the Jones' new Tri-Level in a better part of town. People may think I'm crazy paying so much attention to detail in accenting certain angles or highlighting the intricacies of someone's decor. All the while, I just hope I'm doing their home justice. This particular home was under contract in less than 2 weeks after I photographed the property and crafted an organic, original virtual tour.
